P05 BYOD: Use JavaScript to Enhance Your Captivate Projects

8:30 AM - 4:30 PM PT
Monday, October 24

Adobe Captivate is a great tool for making interactive eLearning. However, it is a program that has a lot of features built in which can be tricky to navigate. Unlocking and using these features can be time consuming. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to click or where to find features you know that are there. As more features are added to Captivate and the workflow changes, it brings on new challenges. Some developers find themselves in a spot where they need to rapidly develop a course, but you don’t have a lot of time. If you don’t use the built-in short-cuts, then development can be stressful. Experienced developers using tools like Captivate often find restrictions with their functionality. There are times when a dynamic solution is needed but the interface doesn’t allow the solution you want.

A resolution to these problems is to learn some new tricks from an experienced developer. In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to create courses that are static, mobile friendly and develop using Adobe’s virtual reality engine. You will also implement and edit some of the quick-start projects and templates to assist with rapid development. The workshop will also provide you with examples on how to create interactive activities. These activities can be tailored to your solution. To help customize your course, you’ll learn how to create and use variables and advanced actions. To help build some content, you will also learn how to use and edit the screen animations and interactions. Finally, to take your course to a new level of production, you will learn how to effectively import external content like audio, video, and web objects. Near the end of the workshop, you’ll also learn some simple scripting techniques that will allow you to increase the functionality of Captivate.

In this session, you will learn:

  • Navigate and customize the interface.
  • Create a variety of projects.
  • Access quick-start projects, assets, and templates to reduce development time.
  • Create interactive activities.
  • Insert VR slides into a project.
  • Incorporate a variety of external media to enhance learning.
  • Insert variables and advanced actions to customize a course.
  • Enhance interactivity using simple scripts.
