113: Making Impact Visible: Skills as a Shared Language

November 4, 2026 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Skills provide a shared language that makes the impact of L&D easier to understand, trust, and act on.

In this session, you’ll learn how to use a skills framework to communicate value in business terms—without relying on activity metrics alone. We’ll introduce a practical, repeatable 4D approach (Define–Detect–Develop–Deploy) to connect a business priority to a focused set of enabling skills, gather credible evidence of proficiency using signals you already have (work outputs, observations, assessments), and present a simple impact narrative that leaders can use as a basis for making decisions. You’ll leave with a plug-and-play talk track and a lightweight template you can apply to your next stakeholder update.

In this session, you will learn to:

  • Apply the 4D framework to structure a skills-first impact story
  • Translate a business goal into 5–7 enabling skills with clear proficiency definitions
  • Identify and map reliable skill evidence sources to build stakeholder confidence

The session is designed for learning practitioners who are building or refreshing a skills-based approach and want a practical way to communicate impact. You do not need deep measurement expertise or advanced analytics to benefit from this session.
