602: BYOD: Vibe Coding: The Superpower You Didn’t Know You Had
As learning professionals, we brainstorm the ideal, immersive learning experience for our audience. But usually, the moment we try to bring that blue-sky idea to life, we slam into a wall of constraints: short deadlines, limited budget, and frustrating procurement red tape. Forced to be "realistic," we compromise, ultimately delivering a watered-down solution that falls short of our own standards.
Not anymore! Generative AI has just given learning professionals a new superpower, and the barriers between your imagination and a finished product have vanished. But that powerful (and essentially free) capability is at risk of sitting unused for two reasons. First, we don’t realize the scope of what we can suddenly achieve. And second, we have been conditioned to believe programming is very difficult, technical and reserved for “tech people.”
This interactive BYOD session will lower anxiety around coding and give you a practical way to start building solutions without a coding background. With great power comes great responsibility! While vibe coding makes it easy to quickly create custom eLearning interactions, we’ll focus on building tools and workflows that expand what’s possible and create meaningful impact for learners. Together, we’ll prompt our way through real use cases, transforming data and building usable web tools with practical effective features.
In this session, you will learn to:
- Get started with AI‑assisted coding with tools you already have, without installing new software or requiring special access
- Use natural‑language prompting to generate, run, and adapt functional code, even with no prior coding experience
- Levearage AI as a practical debugging partner to identify errors, refine outputs, and recover from broken projects
This session is designed for instructional designers, content creators, and learning leaders who are familiar with GenAI chatbots and who know how to prompt and evaluate AI responses for accuracy but have no coding background. Complete AI novices may find the prompting pace challenging, while advanced developers already using Visual Studio Code and AI copilots will find the technical execution too basic.
