EXPOC106: Built to Learn: The Capability Architect’s Playbook for the AI Era

November 4, 2026 1:45 pm - 2:15 pm

Every organization is full of expertise. It lives in the deck a team made after a launch, the experienced manager who knows how to handle the hard conversation, and the colleague people message when the stakes are high.

The problem is not a lack of knowledge. It is that most organizations have no reliable way to turn that knowledge into something others can practice, apply, and improve on.

In this session, Megan Wheeler, Director of People Development at Articulate, shares a practical model for the next evolution of L&D: the capability architect. Grounded in industrial-organizational psychology and two decades of learning and leadership development, she will explore how L&D can extend its reach and speed by setting the standards and design patterns that help subject-matter experts create training without asking a central team to build everything.

Using Articulate Frontline and Articulate 360 AI as examples, Megan will show how a single source of expert knowledge can become just-in-time guidance, interactive learning, conversational practice, and reinforcement that stays current as the work changes. You’ll leave with a way to identify where expertise is getting stuck, decide what requires real practice rather than another broadcast, and expand your influence by helping the business build capability at scale.

During this session, you will learn:

  • How to spot where valuable expertise is getting stuck inside their organization.
  • A new way to think about the role of L&D as a capability architect.
  • How to decide when real practice is needed instead of another broadcast.
  • How a single source of expert knowledge can support learning at scale.
