804: Not Ideal But Oh, So Real: After-the-Fact Measurement Hacks
Come explore a simple, "3-step logic chain" you can use to retroactively construct credible impact stories. Do this without targets, when data is incomplete (real), and even if your stakeholder didn't provide target KPIs or really any clear objectives, you can learn an effective approach to estimate and convey impact. We will discuss how to apply that same approach to avoid reverse engineering in the future; by helping stakeholders identify business needs and targets upfront which is ideal.
You’ll encounter the 3-step logic chain through two case studies: an industry learning portal for consultants and a coaching program for call center managers. The first presented to you and the second you’ll develop in pairs, applying the framework. Once familiar with this simple, logical framework, you'll translate it into a forward-looking planning approach, practicing how to help stakeholders define success criteria BEFORE program launch. You'll also briefly explore using AI with the 3-step logic chain to support measurement—both POST-program (when it's too late to evaluate any other way) and PRE-program (for data discovery and stakeholder prep)
In this session you will:
- Leave with straightforward techniques you can use right away
- Learn to apply a simple, 3-step logic chain to reverse-engineer impact POST-program, even when goals and/or metrics are missing
- Use the same framework PRE-program to help stakeholders define success criteria so you can design for impact
- Connect learning to business outcomes and communicate L&D's value
- Employ AI to improve impact capture and future planning and estimate program outcomes
