504: Boosting Supervisor Readiness: How BankWest Reinvented Frontline Leadership Development

November 5, 2026 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

Organizations invest heavily in leadership development, yet often overlook the foundational layer: supervisors. Many supervisors are promoted for performance, not preparedness, resulting in unclear expectations, ineffective guidance, and ultimately, higher turnover and inconsistent team performance.

This session explores how a community bank identified and closed a significant gap in supervisor readiness, engagement, and confidence by building a holistic, multimodal supervisor development program from the ground up. You’ll see how the program blends eLearning, virtual facilitation, a retreat, and a new supervisor workshop supported by ongoing reinforcement learning. The model’s most powerful element pairs new supervisors with seasoned supervisors who co-facilitate modules, share real experiences, and spark conversations new supervisors don’t yet know to initiate. You will participate in sample activities from the program to experience firsthand how the design increases confidence, connection, and accountability.

In this session, you will learn to:

  • Identify the hidden risks created by undertrained supervisors and diagnose gaps in your own organization
  • Apply a multilayered learning architecture that blends eLearning, workshops, and mentorship to drive behavior change
  • Implement strategies to leverage seasoned supervisors as facilitators, mentors, and culture carriers
  • Design interactive elements that increase engagement and encourage new supervisors to ask better questions

Attendees should be familiar with leadership development concepts but may be new to building or refining a supervisor training program.
