101: BYOD: Visualize First: Storyboarding Design Scenarios with Canva

November 4, 2026 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Storyboards are central to experience and learning design, yet many teams rely on text-heavy documents or complex design tools that slow iteration and obscure structural problems. When visual thinking is delayed, gaps in navigation, interaction, and learner flow often remain hidden until development is already underway.

In this BYOD session, you will learn how Canva enables rapid visual storyboarding and design scenario development without the overhead of traditional design software. By lowering the cost of expressing ideas, Canva allows learning professionals to explore, test, and refine interaction concepts quickly. You will actively create and iterate on a design scenario representing user interaction within a system or learning environment. The session emphasizes how visual storyboarding helps expose design gaps, clarify navigation paths, uncover hidden complexity, and improve stakeholder communication before build decisions are made.

You should bring a laptop or tablet with Canva access (free or licensed version).

In this session, you will learn:

  • How visual storyboarding reveals gaps in design and interaction flows
  • How Canva supports rapid idea exploration and iteration
  • How to translate abstract concepts into navigation and experience models
  • Practical Canva workflows for experience and learning designers

This session assumes general familiarity with learning design, storyboarding, and user experience concepts. No prior Canva experience is required. Activities focus on rapid visual layout and idea exploration rather than advanced design skills. The session is accessible to both newer and experienced learning professionals who want to improve how they communicate and prototype design scenarios.
