EXPOB104: All the Myths About Learning That You (and AI) Still Believe

November 4, 2026 11:55 am - 12:25 pm

Learning styles. The forgetting curve. Chapters organized from simple to complex. Many of our most common beliefs about how people learn are wrong, and because they're so widespread, AI has learned them too. Cognitive psychologist Dr. Matt Hays will take apart the learning myths that still shape training design. He'll show what decades of brain science reveal about how memory actually works and why AI-generated training often repeats the same mistakes. Expect surprises, audience participation, and a few beliefs you'll want to unlearn!

During this session, you will learn:

  • Which common learning myths still shape training, including the ones AI repeats
  • How forgetting varies from learner to learner and how to maximize retention
  • Why being confidently wrong is a bigger problem than being unsure
  • Why learning that feels harder in the moment lasts longer
