612: Designing and Building Custom eLearning with Claude

November 5, 2026 2:45 pm - 3:30 pm
You can usually name the authoring tool that built a course within about four seconds of opening it. That's the problem. Somewhere between kickoff and build, the design got negotiated down to whatever the tool could do. The branching simulation became a multiple choice question. The custom interaction became a click to reveal. The layout became whichever template was closest. Nobody decided any of that, it just happened, because the alternative was a plugin, a workaround, or a developer with their own backlog. So "custom" quietly turned into "we picked the colors."

In this session you'll watch a complete course get built with Claude, live and from scratch. We'll start with a raw source document and generate the ordinary parts fast: navigation, sections, knowledge checks, the work that eats a week and impresses nobody. Then we'll build the parts no template gives you, the interaction that doesn't exist in any tool yet, the layout that exists because the design asked for it. Same process either way. You describe what you want, watch it get built, and refine until it's right. You'll leave with working samples and the prompts behind them, ready to build your own.

In this session you will learn:
  • Generate routine course elements—navigation, sections, and knowledge checks—quickly.
  • Create custom interactions and layouts without being limited by authoring-tool templates.
  • Use prompting and iterative refinement to turn a design idea into a working experience.
  • Apply reusable prompts and working examples to your own course builds.
