106: From Activity to Impact: Building Executive-Ready Stories with Learning Data
L&D is under growing pressure to show how their work moves the needle on capability, performance, and business results—not just enrollments and completions. Yet most updates still rely on activity metrics that fail to influence decisions.
In this session, participants will learn how to transform their existing learning data into concise, executive-ready impact stories tied directly to strategic priorities. Using a simple "Impact Story Arc" (business priority → critical metric → learning contribution → evidence → next decision), we contrast a weak activity-based update with a stronger business-oriented narrative that a CFO or COO would actually use.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Distinguish between activity data and decision-quality evidence that business leaders actually use.
- Build an executive-ready impact story that ties learning initiatives to capability shifts, performance indicators, and strategic goals.
- Sketch a simple dashboard or one-page summary highlighting 4–6 aligned metrics rather than dozens of disconnected data points.
- Use early, imperfect data to communicate progress and manage expectations without overselling results.
You will leave with a customizable impact-story template they can apply immediately. The approach is technology-agnostic but fully compatible with AI, analytics, and modern learning ecosystems.
