512: Go Micro for Maximum Impact: Build a Microlearning Transfer Ecosystem to Drive Performance
A significant portion of workplace training is never applied on the job—it’s called “scrap learning.” The impact is substantial, negatively affecting our budgets, productivity, and morale. So, how do we close this costly gap between learning and performance?
In this interactive session, you’ll learn how to strategically use microlearning to build a transfer ecosystem. We’ll start by analyzing real-world examples of this unique microlearning use case designed specifically to support transfer before, during, and after any learning experience (instructor-led, eLearning, etc.). You’ll discover how to create high-impact modules grounded in behavioral psychology and the science of learning transfer, along with practical tips for optimizing the experience. We’ll examine techniques for strengthening transfer through prompts for manager engagement, commitment, transfer planning, and more. Finally, we’ll walk through the ALT! Framework for transfer-focused microlearning—then apply it during a scenario-based activity. You’ll leave with practical ideas, techniques, and a guided storyboard template you can immediately use to improve learning transfer and performance across your programs.
In this session, you will learn to:
- Design a microlearning ecosystem that improves transfer and performance after any learning experience (e.g., instructor-led courses, online workshops, eLearning, conferences)
- Apply science-based techniques to maximize transfer
- Use the ALT! Framework and guided storyboard template to accelerate your design work
Attendees at any level will benefit from the concepts and activities in this session.
