711: Learning Through Real Work: Turning Strategy into Employee-Led Change

November 6, 2026 8:30 am - 9:30 am

What if some of the most powerful learning experiences aren't courses at all, but opportunities to solve real organizational challenges?

In this session, I'll share how we connected strategic planning, employee development, and continuous improvement to create a model where employees built new capabilities while leading meaningful business improvements. Rather than separating learning from the work, employees became Goal Leads, taking ownership of strategic improvement efforts while developing practical skills in problem solving, project leadership, change leadership, overcoming obstacles, and storytelling.

The model was intentionally simple. Strategic priorities identified the right work to improve. Employees were given meaningful ownership of those efforts. Practical development helped them build the skills to lead the work, while leadership support, KPIs, and monthly progress reviews created accountability and kept improvement efforts connected to organizational priorities.

The result was learning with visible business impact. Employees helped modernize more than 50 processes across the organization while strengthening their own leadership and change capabilities.

Attendees will leave with a practical framework for connecting learning to organizational strategy, using real work as a development experience, and creating opportunities for employees to build capability while driving meaningful change.
