301: BYOD: Build Better Rubrics: A Practical Approach to Defining & Measuring Performance

November 4, 2026 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Learning teams often struggle to measure real-world performance. When expectations are unclear, evaluation varies by reviewer, and feedback lacks structure, performance outcomes suffer.

In this systems-focused BYOD session, you will learn how to design operational rubrics that define measurable performance—not just content understanding. We will explore how to translate vague expectations into observable behaviors, structure proficiency levels that reflect real capability growth, and align rubrics to reporting systems that support workforce visibility.

This session is designed specifically for corporate learning environments where performance must be demonstrated on the job, not just in a course. Bring a laptop and one example of a skill, task, or performance outcome from your organization. Using a guided framework and working templates (including Airtable and Microsoft Forms examples), you will build or refine a functional rubric during the session. We will examine how proficiency levels (e.g., supervised, independent, coaching others) create scalable performance clarity across teams and departments.

You will leave with a working rubric draft, a proficiency-level model, and a structure for connecting rubrics to data reporting systems.

In this session, you will learn to:

  • Convert performance expectations into observable, measurable criteria
  • Design proficiency levels that reflect real operational capability growth
  • Align rubrics to reporting tools (e.g., Airtable, Forms) to create visibility beyond course completion
  • Scale rubric design across teams to support consistent evaluation and feedback

This session assumes that attendees actively design learning programs or performance-based training, understand basic learning objectives, have attempted evaluation beyond simple quizzes, or are responsible for measuring or reporting performance in some way. It does not require advanced analytics expertise, deep data science knowledge, or LMS administration mastery.
