302: BYOD: Build an AI Learning Design Agent in Microsoft Copilot
L&D is routinely asked to support more business areas than its capacity realistically allows. As a result, business areas may design their own training often with inconsistent quality and minimal alignment to L&D design standards. AI agents offer a way to scale learning’s influence, but only when they are applied intentionally and within clearly defined boundaries.
This BYOD session is designed for learning leaders who want to use Copilot to create a learning design agent for business partners who would otherwise create their own training without L&D guidance. Rather than positioning AI as a replacement for learning teams, this session focuses on designing a narrowly scoped, high value agent that responsibly extends learning capability to select business partners.
To participate, attendees must have a Microsoft 365 Business or Enterprise license with the Microsoft 365 Copilot add‑on. Through guided exercises and live Copilot work, attendees will:
- Identify parts of the business that are strong candidates for AI design support (e.g., teams with sufficient maturity who are already creating their own training).
- Evaluate what learning content Copilot can and cannot reliably produce (e.g., strong at scripts and outlines, weak at polished final deliverables).
- Design the needs analysis questions the agent must ask before generating content.
- Identify the reference materials the agent will need to generate consistent, high-quality output.
- Attendees will leave with a draft learning design agent in Copilot that they can refine and adapt after the conference.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Articulate where an AI learning design agent can effectively extend L&D’s reach.
- Define clear boundaries for what Copilot should and should not produce.
- Design effective needs analysis questions for an AI learning agent.
- Identify the resources required to support reliable AI generated learning outputs.
