805 Making Your L&D Case by Storytelling With Learning Data

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM PT
Friday, October 27

Tracks: Data & Measurement

Pitching your L&D projects to leadership and stakeholders is not easy. Analyzing the audience, defining your communication goals, sharpening the messages, and turning your L&D data into a compelling story require a specific skill set and practice. Getting the message across is crucial for justifying the existence of the L&D function in your organization. L&D professionals need to know how to show the impact and ROI they bring based on compelling storytelling of L&D data.

In this session you will learn what great learning data storytelling is. You will learn specific storytelling techniques to use when presenting learning data to your stakeholders and leadership. Together, we will explore which types of learning data we can collect in an organization (first- and second-party data) and how our learning data can support our story and business case. Then, we will learn how to analyze our data and understand what kind of learning data is important for different business cases. Finally, we will learn how to interpret learning data—what kind of story it tells and how to correlate every data point to the relevant business KPIs. You will leave this session feeling you are able to communicate your L&D story and decision-making reasoning to your organization by powerful storytelling.

In this session, you will learn:

  • About business KPIs
  • How to get the buy-in you need
  • How to partner with other leaders and share data
  • How to collect the data that correlates to your objectives
  • How to present the data and which numbers to present to tell a story
