208 Turning Your Learning Data into Compelling and Impactful Stories

1:15 PM - 2:15 PM PT
Wednesday, October 25

Tracks: Data & Measurement

We live in a world that is obsessed with data collection and your LMS (learning management system) is no exception to this. But, what do we do with this data? Do we share this data in a meaningful way? We often share data with stakeholders using a firehose approach, leaving our audience struggling to find meaning and unable to draw any actionable insights. Data storytelling is an engaging communication tool that not only presents data, but adds context, meaning, and clarity to help your audience interpret the information and extract value from it. As L&D leaders we must dig deeper and go beyond the simple facts, figures, and dashboards to gain insight into current business challenges and help inform business decisions. We must become better at using data to tell our story by sharing insights, demonstrating ROI, and communicating impact in a way that is persuasive and engaging.

In this session, we will outline the benefits of using data storytelling when sharing data with your audience. You will learn how to draw key insights from your learning data and how to craft an engaging narrative that is relatable and human-centred using data visualization and key elements of analysis storytelling. As you leave this session, you will be able to apply the concepts discussed to present your data in a way that will inform business decisions, offer deep insight into your learning organization, and optimize your learning experiences.

In this session, you will learn:

  • Examples of LMS data and determine what insights we can draw from this
